GEEP receives inaugural "Technology Green 15" Award as the 2007 Deloitte Technology Fast 50 program launches this new award category Canada's most prestigious technology award program celebrates a decade of Canadian technology with a new award honouring a burgeoning industry Barrie, ON, September 20, 2007 - Global Electric Electronic Processing (GEEP) Inc., one of the Barrie Metals Group of Companies, is an inaugural winner of the prestigious Deloitte Technology Green 15 Award, a new award that salutes companies creating major breakthroughs in the field of green technology. The award comes as the 2007 Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Awards Program celebrates its 10th anniversary as the pre-eminent technology awards program in Canada.
The Deloitte Technology Green 15 Awards recognize those Canadian companies that offer solutions to global environmental challenges by creating intellectual property (IP) and technology that reduce society's environmental impact.
"The Deloitte Technology Green 15 awards were created because much of the popular focus on environmental solutions often rests on more visible manifestations like wind farms and solar farms," said John Ruffolo, National Leader, Technology, Media & Telecommunications Industry Group, Deloitte. "Honouring companies such as GEEP is raising awareness of the innovative, powerful technologies invented here in Canada that work behind the scenes to enable the green applications we benefit from today.
Barrie Metals Group CEO Alfred Hambsch, credits a corporate objective of zero landfill as driving his companies, including GEEP, to search out solutions to address current environmental risks. The most recent and significant venture in this regard is the opening of NanoFuel Solutions at the Barrie, Ontario location. Through the NanoFuel process, all non-usable co-mingled plastics derived from processing electronic waste can be turned into diesel fuel (oil). "We believe in closed loop recycling and strive to produce commodities out of every piece of waste entering our sites," said Hambsch. "We have invested millions of dollars in technologies that will make us a global leader in electronic waste recycling"
"Companies such as GEEP are creating technology solutions that have both a significant environmental impact and demonstrate a compelling return on investment. In so doing, they are helping position Canada as a global leader in the development of commercially-viable green technology," explained Ruffolo.
